Are You Running Your Business, or Is It Running You?
You are driven. You build, you push forward, and you have incredible vision. But beneath all that drive, something deeper may be at play: fear and desire. The fear of failure. The desire for success, recognition, or security. These may seem like motivators, but they keep you trapped in a cycle of emotional struggle.
Michael Singer, an entrepreneur and author of one of our favorite books, Untethered Soul, teaches that most people live their lives trying to get what they want and avoid what they don’t want. When you live this way, you are not free!
What if you could step beyond this cycle of emotional struggle? What if you could run your business not from fear or desire but from a place of clarity and true inner peace?
The Illusion of Control
The reality is, no matter how much you achieve, success will never feel “enough” if you are constantly chasing it to fill a void. The new deal, the bigger office, or the industry recognition might bring the dopamine hit you’re looking for but they do not bring lasting fulfillment.
At the same time, avoiding failure at all costs won’t bring you peace. Because you’re so smart, you will dodge setbacks, but the fear remains. Even when things are going well, you subconsciously wonder . . . What if I lose this? What if the next challenge is too big?
You are not here to control every outcome. You are here to experience life fully, the wins, the setbacks, the lessons. When you stop resisting what is and let go of the belief that fulfillment comes from acquiring or avoiding, you step into something far more powerful: presence.
The Power of Letting Go
Letting go does not mean losing ambition. It means unburdening yourself from the weight of needing things to go a certain way in order to feel okay.
Your energy is best spent not on controlling outcomes, but on showing up fully in the present moment. When you do, your decisions become clearer, your leadership more impactful, and your experience of life far richer.
Journaling Prompt:
What is one thing in your business that you are holding onto too tightly? What would shift if you let go of the need to control it?
Final Thought
"The moment you let go of needing life to be a certain way, you open yourself to a life far greater than anything you could have imagined." – Michael Singer
Success is not found in getting what you want or avoiding what you don’t want. It is found in the courage to be fully present for whatever life brings.
