Leading with Love

Starting with the obvious… your external achievements or possessions do not make a difference to your inner well-being. Deep inside, you know you are ‘okay’ without all that stuff (not that there is anything wrong with that stuff!). Your inner well-being can be described in many ways and we have used the term “True Self.” Recently, I read a book that used the term essence love, so, to change things up a bit, today I’m going to use essence love instead of True Self.

Essence love, like True Self, is a sense of unconditional okayness that you were born with, a natural part of who you are. Often, stress, judgment, and fear can obscure your essence of love, but it is always there. The more you tap into it, the more you can lead with clarity, compassion, and strength.

Leading with Essence Love

You might be thinking about how this idea fits into your role as an entrepreneur or leader. You are driven to achieve and, in many cases, accumulate (money, things, experiences). In business, you often face situations that seem to contradict essence love. Things like managing someone’s performance or dealing with setbacks that may get in the way of what you want to accomplish or have. But your inner well-being trusts that essence love belongs in even the most challenging interactions. Imagine approaching a difficult situation not from a place of judgment but from that subtle warmth within you, a space of being ‘okay,’ and seeing the potential for growth in every challenge. Essence love is being anchored in compassion as you make challenging decisions. Decisions from love, not fear.

Cultivating Your Connection

Because you are so often in your head, it’s important to learn ways that you can practice bringing essence love to your leadership and life. The idea is to reconnect with it throughout the day, “short moments, many times.” Whether you’re in a high-stress meeting, a conversation that triggers frustration, or even when things are going perfectly, you can notice essence love. It is the quiet, subtle sense that you’re okay, that life is okay, and that your worth isn’t dependent on circumstances. The more you nurture this, the more it becomes your natural state.

Journaling Prompt (3 Minutes)

Take a moment and reflect: When was the last time you felt ‘okay’ without needing any reason? What was happening around you? How can you bring more of this essence love into your daily leadership?
