We Are More Alike Than We Remember

Being a driven entrepreneur can feel lonely at times. Although your identity may be associated with “entrepreneur,” at your core, you know you are more like other humans than not. I recently came across an experimental AI tool called the Interfaith Bot, created by volunteers at Service Space. It compiles wisdom from over 77,000 religious documents from all traditions to find common principles and aspirations.

I asked the Bot what are the common themes amongst all of these religions. You will not be surprised that the answer was: compassion, kindness, honesty, and generosity. You share fundamental values no matter the path you follow and that is at the core of what unites all of us. When you understand your shared humanity, you feel less isolated, more connected, and more compassionate—towards others and towards yourself.

Compassion Frees Us

Compassion is a bridge to freeing your True Self. Often, you resist compassion with those you struggle with—people who have hurt you or stand in your way. Those are fear-based emotions and when you let go of them, you begin to discover your True Self: Pure Love, Pure Light, coming from your heart. You want to be your True Self in your business. Your people feel your energy and when it’s coming from fear (i.e. irritation, disappointment, use your word here), they will not be working at their highest levels.

We Are All Connected

Whether in your business, personal lives, or your spiritual journeys, you are more alike than different from others. This understanding allows us to lead with genuine care and create a life that honors who you truly are, free from fear.

Imagine what your world would be if you made this shift—living your life from a place of Pure Love, seeing the interconnectedness of all 8 billion human beings and every sentient being. It is my deepest hope that, through understanding and compassion, each of you can feel the power of this connection and the peace it brings. You want to understand that your business is a living organism. There are so many people that your company impacts on a daily basis. Think about it! Your employees, your customers, your vendors, and the communities around you that your business impacts. It’s all super connected and pretty amazing when you really give it some thought.

3-Minute Journaling Prompt:

Think of someone you have found difficult to connect with. What values or experiences might you share with them? How could recognizing these similarities bring more compassion into your relationship?

Make a list of all the people that are impacted by your business. Include employees, vendors, and the like. Make connections to how they impact each other. For example, how your customer service employee makes a positive impact during a conversation with your customer through something as simple as a warm greeting and kind words.

Inspiring Note:

An interpretation on compassion that I gleaned from the Indian spiritual leader and philosopher, Osho: When we see ourselves in others, compassion arises. When compassion arises, we find true freedom. Embrace your shared humanity, and live each day from a place of love and connection.
